Announcing “Piano with Zachary Deak!”
In December 2021, ArtistWorks launched a brand new piano course designed specifically for adults interested in learning to play the piano for the first time—“Beginner’s Guide to Piano.” Taught by esteemed pianist and life-long educator, Zachary Deak, the “Beginner’s Guide to Piano” course quickly gained traction and notoriety among aspiring pianists, and it wasn’t long before hundreds of students were enrolled, learning to play classical and popular music pieces they love on the piano.
Jazz Piano Lesson: Adding Guide Tones
As you progress as a jazz musician, regardless of your instrument of choice, one of the most critical elements to begin implementing into your improvisation and rhythmic comping is the use of guide tones. Guide tones help lead the listener through the chord progression of the piece you’re playing, and their use also projects musical maturity and a deeper understanding of harmony.
Thank you to the ArtistWorks Popular Piano Family
Dear Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that I will be finishing the last VE deadlines dates on July 9, July 16, and July 23. Thank you for 9 wonderful years of helping thousands of people discover the joy of playing the piano! I've just posted a video on the home page sharing some details that went into this difficult decision, so please be sure to watch it to the end.
I know many of you will be very disappointed, but rest assured the ArtistWorks team will help you either transition to another fantastic teacher here (they are ALL wonderful!), or help you get a refund for the remainder of your subscription should you choose to discontinue. Whatever you decide, it is my sincere hope that you will continue to play the piano for the rest of your lives!
I hope to see all of you for the final 3 VE dates and help you continue in your piano playing journey!
With much love,
Hugh

One such example is the Miles Davis classic, “Tune Up,” which almost exclusively features a series of cascading ii-V-I chord progressions rotating through various key centers.
Piano Lesson: Tips To Get You Sight Reading Music
One of the most critical skills that many professional musicians will tell you is essential to master is the ability to sight read music. But, learning to sight read music is no small task. Not only do you have to be able to think linearly and perform the music on the page accurately in time, but you also have to be able to think vertically to effectively perform chords and harmonies correctly. Fortunately, world-renowned pianist and ArtistWorks popular piano instructor, Hugh Sung, has a few tremendously helpful tips to get you sight reading more quickly, effectively, and accurately.
