30 Day Ukulele Challenge: “Brown Eyed Girl” Collaboration
Since 2017, internationally-renowned musicians and ArtistWorks ukulele instructors Craig Chee and Sarah Maisel have hosted routine 30 Day Ukulele Challenges exclusively for their students here at ArtistWorks. These fun and often collaborative challenges are designed to encourage students to learn a new song over 30 days and submit a performance video to share with the rest of the ArtistWorks ukulele community. Student participants rally together and support one another as the community steps out of their collective comfort zones to learn something new and share it with their peers.

In the classical music tradition, how a player approaches their technique on stringed instruments such as the violin, viola, and cello is very rigid and specific. A player’s bowing technique, in particular, is tremendously calculated and must follow a distinct set of guidelines. When placed in the context of other genres, however, string players have the freedom to explore other bowing techniques that are often more experimental and less ubiquitous among musicians.

Harmonica Lesson: An Introduction to Bending
One of the most expressive qualities of the human voice as a musical instrument is its ability to bend notes and glide seamlessly from one pitch to the next. Note bending is a technique that singers employ frequently, and it’s often mimicked as accurately as possible by a variety of different musical instruments. One instrument, in particular, through which you can bend notes and capture this expressive vocal texture is the harmonica.

Livestream Recital with Hugh Sung and LA Philharmonic Violinist Mitchell Newman
Violinist Mitchell Newman, 30 year member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will be performing a free livestream recital with pianist Hugh Sung at Cunningham Piano in King of Prussia, PA on Saturday, May 7 at 7 pm EST. Mitchell and Hugh will perform works by Mozart, Lucas Richman, and Respighi.
