In 2011, we welcomed Grammy Award-winning guitarist Bryan Sutton, bluegrass mandolin icon Mike Marshall, upright bass virtuoso Missy Raines, and legendary fiddle player Darol Anger to our faculty of instructors. Alongside world-renowned banjo player Tony Trischka, this amazing group of master musicians made up our collective of ArtistWorks bluegrass teachers, and, since then, we’ve ushered many more fantastic artists into our program.
We’re excited to announce that, after ten years as one of our premier instructors here at ArtistWorks, Bryan has just completed his 9,000th Video Exchange. Congratulations Bryan on reaching this outstanding achievement, and thank you to all of his wonderful acoustic guitar students for consistently submitting videos!
To celebrate this fantastic milestone, our cofounder Patrica Butler sat down with Bryan to conduct an in-depth interview as part of an exclusive episode of our ArtistWorks Music Series podcast to discuss his experience teaching on the ArtistWorks Video Exchange platform over the last decade. “Most of the people in the world of bluegrass are also players,” Bryan explains. “Everyone’s getting together and jamming all the same songs, and there’s a vibrancy in this community that’s always been there. Through ArtistWorks, there’s a direct window into that world.”
Bryan’s online community has become an online hub for acoustic guitar and bluegrass enthusiasts alike. Throughout the last ten years, it’s become a place that welcomes players of all levels and facilitates positivity, encouragement, and musical growth. Nothing facilitates this more than ArtistWork’s unique Video Exchange Learning platform.
“What I’ve always loved about ArtistWorks is that each Video Exchange gets uploaded to the site for the entire community to absorb, watcher, peruse, and learn from,” Bryan explains. “While I’m responding directly to the questions of one person, I’m really potentially talking to a few thousand people. And, who knows how many over time because they’re always there.”
