Taught by Grammy and IBMA Award-winning guitarist and ArtistWorks Flatpick Guitar instructor Bryan Sutton, this workshop will teach you all the skills needed to read and create tablature for any fretted stringed instrument. In the first section of lessons, you’ll learn how to read tablature. Bryan details the tablature format, common markings and symbols, and how to read the notes. In the second section, Bryan shows you his actual process for creating tablature using the industry-leading tablature software program, Guitar Pro. Learn the basics of setting up a file based on your instrument and tuning, how to input notes, rhythmic values, pick-up phrases, and even how to add embellishments like hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, and bends.
Taught by Berklee College of Music alumnus David Olivas, this five-section series of lessons covers everything from basic ear training concepts to terminology and how to hear and read musical relationships. David details multiple approaches to ear training and leads comprehensive lessons designed to exercise your ears on the following topics: Intervals (hearing relationships between notes), Chords (hearing and identifying the voices that combine to make different chord types), Tonal Relationships (building familiarity with the different major and minor tonalities), and Rhythms (getting familiar with note values and time signatures).
Taught by ArtistWorks jazz instructors Eric Marienthal and George Whitty, this expansive workshop takes you through the many different concepts, approaches, and methods used by these masters of improvisation. They’ll teach you dozens of different techniques ranging from simple ideas to help you first get started to advanced concepts and beyond. These in-depth lessons include improv performances, demonstrations, analysis, and discussions that will elevate your understanding of and approach to improvising.
Taught by master pianist and ArtistWorks Popular Piano instructor Hugh Sung, this workshop guides students who’ve never seen or worked with a musical score to perform and sight-read music. Learn basic note values and rhythmic markings, how to read the staff lines, accidentals, key signatures, time signatures, ledger lines, chords, progressions, scales, and more. This 10 level course advances progressively through well over 100 video lessons to provide you with all the necessary skills you need to start sight-reading music.
