Inside Qbert at QSU

Inside Qbert at QSU series: In an interview with Qbert on Monday night, Oct 12th, Qbert told the story of how he may be involved in the upcoming DJ Hero 2 game. “I went to the release party for DJ Hero in San Francisco, and was meeting all the developers and producers. Right there at the party they started talking about bringing me in for the DJ Hero 2 as it would be turntablist based. I am not sure how this idea got out into the news media. I think it’s a synchronistic opportunity and hopefully it will work out. We’ll see what happens.”

Qbert just came back from Las Vegas on Monday night where he was flown in to work with a club scene—showing the staff and audience a streamlined and more commercial approach to turntablist DJing.

He spoke with us enthusiastically about his new movie project, meeting with potential creative talent and his process of crafting the music and then creating a movie flowing with the music. “This is a backwards process to conventional movies: we score the music, then shoot the film. I’m not sure if it will be animated (like my first movie) or not. It will definitely be psychedelic and will have a better world, subtle spiritual message.” There is no working title as of yet for this new movie project. His first movie was Wave Twisters, and Qbert speaks of its message as seeing the universe in a continuing manifestation of sound, that all the phenomenon of the universe from galaxies and stars down to sub-atomic particles are made of vibrations, of states of cosmic sound.

“I see QSU as making the world a better place by helping each other. The ultimate happiness is to give to others so they’re happy. I encourage my students to perfect their art and practice. Keep developing your art to make others happy and you will be happy.”
