Original Post:
2019 was very, very busy year at ArtistWorks! We saw many of our masters in the studio to film new lessons, but some our favorite musical moments happened at the multiple “Big Giveaway” contests we had this year. In April we hosted John Patittuci, Eric Marienthal, George Whitty, and Peter Erskine in our Napa studio for a day of music recording/filming, teaching, and jamming with 2 lucky contest winners.
The guests were treated to a full day of being a “fly on the wall” in the studio as these 4 jazz icons performed together as an ensemble for the first time ever. They were able to watch these musical masters record some of their favorite songs that they’ve written, as well as hearing them break down their individual parts and how each of them would approach the songs. The group energy and virtuosity was palpable in the room, and winners Jerome (bass) and Corey (sax) got to witness it first hand. In addition to viewing the day-long session, they got to jam on 2 songs each with the guys, a once in a lifetime experience!
When asked about his time jamming with jazz legends, Jerome commented “Being with players of this caliber, and being able to ask them anything you want to ask them, just listening to their stories…I got to ask Peter Erskine about Jaco. I mean how good is that for a bass player?”.
Corey also had nothing but good things to say about his time at ArtistWorks: “Just to be able to jam with these guys, I mean these are 4 like literal Jazz icons and played with everbody, and won Grammys and all that jazz…it’s been a great experience.”
Today, we bring you the first of these incredible, collaborative renditions of some of our artists favorite tunes. “Twelve”, originally written by Peter Erskine, is now available for you to watch. You can find the first song in +Music > Big Jazz Giveaway. We at ArtistWorks hope that you enjoy these songs as much as we enjoyed witnessing and capturing them. More songs will be released in the coming weeks. Enjoy!
